California Modern Villa

Transitioning to 100% Clean Energy
The homeowners of this modern California villa approached Solengy with a dual objective: dramatically reduce their soaring monthly electricity bills and minimize their environmental footprint without compromising the architectural beauty of their home.
Given the property’s high energy consumption (driven by a heated pool, EV charging stations, and extensive smart home systems), our engineering team needed to design a high-capacity system that could maximize the available roof space while remaining visually unobtrusive.
The Challenge
The primary challenge was the roof’s complex geometry. The modern design featured multiple flat and slightly angled surfaces, some of which were partially shaded by mature oak trees during the late afternoon. Additionally, local HOA guidelines required that the panels sit flush against the roofline with minimal visible wiring.
The Solengy Solution
To address the shading issue, we opted for Enphase micro-inverters paired with premium, all-black monocrystalline panels. Unlike string inverters where shading on one panel drops the performance of the entire system, micro-inverters ensure that each panel operates independently at its maximum capacity.
We designed a customized, low-profile mounting system that allowed the 12 kW array to sit perfectly flush with the varying roof angles. To handle the home’s high night-time usage, we seamlessly integrated two 10kWh lithium-ion battery storage units into the garage, allowing the homeowners to draw from stored solar power even after the sun went down.
